Protecting your personal information and privacy is important to the Institute of Australian Geographers, in a climate of a rising number of international data breaches. The IAG has this privacy statement to be consistent with the current Commonwealth Privacy Laws, although our Institute is exempt from these laws (due to our turnover being less than $3 million).

The IAG needs to collect and hold certain data, such as your financial membership status and study group membership, and use personal data to communicate our various activities with you through phone, email and other electronic means, and/or to determine eligibility for various awards and grants.

All member details are strictly confidential. The Institute of Australian Geographers will not disclose any of your personal information, including your email address, to outside parties. Access to member data is restricted to the IAG roles of the President, Membership Secretary, Treasurer, Honorary Communications Officer, Secretary (Web) and Public Officer.  All Study Group convenors are required to use the IAG’s membership database to communicate with their members.

If you require further information on our use of personal data or what data the Institute holds and how it is managed please contact our Public Officer whose details are recorded at: https://www.iag.org.au/councillors-and-officers.
