Dr Amanda Davies (Fellow of the Institute of Australian Geographers) Citation

Dr Amanda Davies has been accepted as a Fellow of the Institute of Australian Geographers.

The Fellowship is awarded for sustained service to the geography profession in Australia.

Since Amanda began her employment at Curtin University as a Human Geographer in 2005, she has worked tirelessly to advance geography in many ways.  Within her institution she re-established a Geography program at Curtin, and established a Graduate Certificate in Geography Teaching in response to the national curriculum.

She is a well regarded media personality in Perth, and she is now the principle commentator on geographical and population issues in that city.

She has participated in the leadership and development of geography nationally as a councillor of the Institute for Australian Geographers from 2002 until 2014, Convener of the IAG Rural Studies Group between 2002 and 2006, and on the organizing committee for the 2006 & 2013 IAG conferences.  In January 2014, she was appointed as a co-editor of the IAG’s journal Geographical Research as well as the editorial board of GEOView.
